New captain america actor name1/3/2024 Speaking to USA Today, the actor said of the response to his character: ‘People are probably going to hate it, and some people are going to love it’. While talking about his new role as John in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Wyatt said it would be an ‘honour’ for Marvel fans to ‘dislike’ him – given the adverse reaction many viewers had to the ‘new Captain America’ reveal. Point is - no one is likely to ever be Tom Cruise big again, so it shouldn't be any sort of standard anymore.Ĭhris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, Paul Rudd, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman - all leading men in movies outside of the MCU.Wyatt Russell with Wunmi Mosaku and Ken Yamamura in series three of Black Mirror (Picture: Netflix/Kobal/Rex/Shutterstock) Put Bautista in some garbage movie and it'll be sold but it's not like Arnold being in anything and seeing massive profits. Slap him in any genre picture and it'll go gangbusters.Īlthough even that's a little gray. The Rock is probably our latest A-lister. We haven't had an A-list martial artist since Jackie Chan ported over with 1996's Rumble in the Bronx. Will Smith, Denzel, Cruise, Jennifer Lopez, DiCaprio, maybe a few others - they're all the remaining A list and they're all from 25 years ago. Gone are the days of Above the Law, Double Team, Commando, Cobra, etc. He once held the Guiness Book of World Record for the number of consecutive movies that grossed over $100m (which used to be rare). Tom Cruise remains one of the last of all of 'em, and likely the best in history. We don't have many of those anymore, the decline of the celebrity a-lister is well documented. Maybe I’m wrong in my thought process but I don’t see Mackie’s acting bringing him to the front of a very difficult game right now for fame. There used to be a big divide and now the lines are blurred and the content is so saturated it’s hard to see who could possibly lead a new Gen of A listers. Plus the streaming boom has become a huge shift (which was already happening) in tv actors versus movie actors. I think the older generation of A listers still pull audiences well, but probably not as well as a good plot or content. It seems to me that they want the old days when a name could pull an audience, and the trajectory of that thought process changed hard during the pandemic. The absolute right project needs to take place and sometimes that just doesn’t happen.Īlso, I think studios are grabbing for ensembles, and using people who are established A listers to get people into the theater more. I think it’s also very very hard for a black man to become a leading man. The guy is busy and being given every chance to become a true leading man. He has multiple projects as Captain America. It looks like he's the lead in the upcoming Twisted Metal show. I forgot he was in any of the supporting roles you listed except for Hurt Locker.Īll that said, it looks like Hollywood is still giving him leading roles. Those indie movies you listed are generally the leading roles that get people established and prove they can carry a massive blockbuster. He's had some other Netflix movies and shows where we didn't shine. I thought he was especially bad in Altered Carbon. He was the lead in Falcon and Winter Soldier and wasn't that good. I think you could replace Mackie with at least a dozen different actors and potentially even get a better product. I think if a leading man as an actor you would have a very hard time replacing and the show or movie still being successful. I would argue he's been given too many chances to become a leading man. They were given everything and ruined it. Wild seeing as that's the core conceit of the show.Īnyway, the reason I care when an adaptation falls flat is because on some level feel like a betrayal. Mackie should be acting like the person from season one, he does not even try. Here's the thing specifically about altered carbon s2 that both makes it a bad show, but also makes Mackie a bad actor: it's supposed to be the same person in two different bodies. This is in no way a representation of the book I've been trying to get you to read. We have to tell everyone we recommended it to that, no, in fact this is not at all what I love, this is an abomination wearing the face skin of the thing we loved. They had everything laid out for them and they disregarded it. Then when they completely disregard core concepts of the source material and it becomes this weird hybrid of original vision and executive notes that ultimately falls completely short of the source. Who enjoy the source material, and because of it recommend these shows or movies to people.
